Raising money to help Positive Coaching Alliance continue to furthering their mission of "Transforming the Culture of Youth Sports!"
I think I came out of the womb loving sports...seriously. For as long as I can remember, athletics has been an integral part of my life. To date, I still identify as an athlete. I'm one of the lucky ones! I was blessed with having great coaches throughout my career, regardless of age and sport. They were as concerned about me as a young adult as they were teaching me the finer points of the game. Because of this approach, I was able to see myself in the larger, more realistic context and grow accordingly. I had double-goal coaches (Winning and Teaching Life Lessons) before I ever heard the name. And my parents, well they were appropriately supportive before I even knew what that meant. They encouraged me to take risks, try new things and compete while also keeping things in perspective. To boot, they showed their support by being a fan and a parent...not by trying to be another coach. In the end, when it came time to make a college decision and I had the choice between playing at a bigger, more reputable school and one that was a step down but where I would get more playing time, they supported my decision to attend the college that would best serve my desire; to play the game. Unfortunately, many kids aren't as lucky. They get turned off by coaches and/or parents who have a single goal.. and miss out on all that sports can offer. Thats why PCA is so important.
Positive Coaching Alliance has been the single most influential organization in my professional (and personal to be honest) career. It provided me with the language and tools to best express what I have always believed important about sports in the lives of youth and to help create a culture that reinforced those beliefs.
